Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 30, 2026 · Provided by Bret Patton
- Little Knights does not collect, send, sell, or share any personal information.
- There are no accounts, ads, analytics, trackers, or in-app purchases.
- The app works without an internet connection and is built to block network requests. The Android app does not even ask for internet access.
- Anything the app remembers stays on your device, and a grown-up can delete it at any time.
1. Information we collect
None. Little Knights runs entirely on your device. We (the makers of Little Knights) do not receive any information from the app, and we have no servers that the app talks to.
Little Knights comes in three forms, and none of them collect information:
- Phone app (Android): all files are inside the app. It does not request the internet permission, so it cannot connect to the internet.
- Installed web app: the first time you open it, your device downloads the app’s files from its web address and saves them. The recorded voice is downloaded and saved the first time it speaks. After that, it runs from the saved files, even offline. Like any website, the host that serves the files (Cloudflare, for littleknights.bretpatton.com) may keep standard technical logs of that download, such as IP addresses. The app itself sends nothing.
- Computer file: runs from the file on your computer.
2. What the app saves on your device
To remember players and progress between visits, the app saves the following in local storage on this device only:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Player nickname and picture (an animal emoji) | To show whose turn it is to learn and to keep progress separate. |
| Age range (4–6, 7–10, 11+) and experience level | To adjust how long and detailed the coaching is. |
| XP, level, badges, and simple counts (moves made, lessons finished, squares found) | To show progress and celebrate learning. |
| Puzzles solved and games played against the computer | To show progress and unlock new opponents. |
| Choices made by a grown-up (hints, quizzes, danger map, computer opponent level, move notation) | To give each player the right tools. |
| The child’s buddy (colors, hat, extras) and board color | So their own Pip greets them each time. |
| A practice schedule (when each skill is next due for a short review) and how many new story chapters were finished each day | To bring skills back at the right time and to pace new chapters. Kept on this device only; daily chapter counts are kept for about 30 days. |
| Daily activity counts and weekly progress snapshots (about six months) | To show the skills garden, the daily goals, and growth charts for grown-ups. Only counts are kept, never the games themselves. |
| Voice, speaking speed, and pop-up preferences | To remember your settings. |
We ask only for a nickname. Please do not enter a full name or other identifying details. The app does not save the games themselves, and it does not save any data about your device, location, or contacts.
3. Children’s privacy
Little Knights is designed for children with a parent, teacher, or other grown-up. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13, we do not need or request parental consent to collect data. This approach is intended to respect children’s privacy laws such as the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the UK and EU rules for children’s data.
The Grown-ups area is protected by a simple math question so young children do not change settings or delete progress by accident. It is not a security feature.
4. Read-aloud voices
Natural voices (“Skye” and “George”) are recordings that come with Little Knights. They play from your device, and nothing you do is sent anywhere to make them speak.
System voices are provided by your device. The app lists only voices your browser reports as on-device voices, so coaching is not sent to an online speech service. Your operating system or browser provides those voices under its own privacy policy.
5. Files you choose to download
A grown-up can download a progress file from the Grown-ups area. That file is created on your device and saved wherever you choose. We never receive it.
6. Deleting your data
- Delete one player: Grown-ups → Delete next to the player.
- Delete everything: Grown-ups → Delete all data.
- You can also clear the app’s data in your browser or phone settings, or uninstall the app.
7. Security
The app includes a content security policy that blocks network connections. Because data is stored on the device, anyone using the same device (or the same browser profile) can see the players and progress saved there.
8. Changes to this policy
If a future version adds anything that changes how information is handled, such as online features or an app-store release, we will update this policy and its effective date before that version is released.
